Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, which is visited by millions of Muslims every year because of the Qibla of Muslims Kaaba within its borders, has an important place in the region with rich oil fields and holy Mecca and Medina cities for Muslims. The capital city of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh and the country has a total population of 31 million 742 thousand according to 2017 data. The number of foreigners is 10 million 240 thousand. The surface area of Saudi Arabia is 2 million 150 thousand square kilometers, the currency of the country is riyal and its official language is Arabic. Of the 31 million people living in Saudi Arabia, about one-third of them are foreign workers. Cleaning, repairs, factory labor, barbering, butchery are all done by foreigners.

Almost 90 percent of the land of the country is composed of deserts and in the border of Yemen, Necran and Cazan regions have mountains with an altitude of up to 2 thousand meters. Yemen and Oman are located in the south; Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and the Persian Gulf in the east; Kuwait in the northeast; Iraq and Jordan in the north and the Red Sea in the west.

The current government in the country was founded on 23 September 1932 by King Abdulaziz bin Abdurrahman Al Saud. The Hijri calendar is used in Saudi Arabia, which has an extremely hot climate due to large deserts. Millions of Muslims go to Saudi Arabia every year for pilgrimage and Umrah because Kabba is located in the city of Mecca and the grave of Prophet Muhammad is located in the city of Medina.

In Saudi Arabia, which competes with the US in oil production, the economy is based on oil revenues. The country's gross domestic product in 2016 was 646 billion dollars and per capita, national income was 21 thousand 395 dollars. Following the falling oil prices in recent years, the 2030 vision to diversify national income and provide non-oil sources was announced. According to the new vision, the country's national income in 2030 is aimed to be provided independently of oil. Within this scope, the ambitious targets such as increasing national production, strengthening the local industry, increasing the local production which is 2 percent in the defense industry to over 50 percent are included. It is planned to introduce serious restrictions to agriculture in 2020 to protect freshwater resources in the country. Saudi Arabia is one of the leading countries in the production of dates with 18 million tons per year. The economy, which has been declining due to falling oil prices in recent years, brought with it new taxes which especially affected foreigners more. Accordingly, every foreigner with a residence permit in the country up to 2020 per person needs to pay 100 riyals per month, 200 riyals each time when leaving the country, 2 thousand riyals per person for renewal of residence permit.
